Are you seeing yellow triangle warning on ESXi hosts on vCenter? What could be the reason you are seeing those warning? Can these warnings be disabled?

The reason you see the yellow triangle/exclamation mark on ESXi host is when you enabled SSH (Remote) and the ESXi Shell for Management of host from Console or web client or VSphere client.

Either you can disable warning or you can disable SSH and ESXi Shell. Both the ways are shown below.

Via Vsphere Client Console – Disable SSH and ESXi Shell

Vsphere
  • Login to Vsphere Client > Open Host Console
  • Press “F2” to Customize System/View Logs
  • Enter root credentials
  • Go to Troubleshooting Options
  • Disable ESXi Shell > Disable, if Enabled
  • Disable SSH > Disable, if Enabled
  • Press ESC to Exit and again ESC to logout

Via VSphere Client – Disable the Warning

  • Login to Vsphere Client
  • Select the Host which gives the Triangle/Exclamation Error
  • Go to Configuration > Under Software > Click on Advanced Settings
  • Click UserVars > UserVars.SuppressShellWarning
  • Change the Value from 0 (Zero) to 1 (One) and Click on OK

That’s all!! Hope it helps.

Issue description - If you are upgrading your VMware environment from 5x to 6x specially 6.7. let me tell you this differently, After the ESXi upgrade from 5.5 to 6.5 and then finally 6.7, (because you cannot upgrade ESXi 5x to ESXi 6.7 directly), everything seems to be perfect and there is no issues, and then you chose to patch the ESXI host with the latest available patches.

After applying the patches in VMSA-2018-0020 to an ESXi host vCenter Server displays one of these messages:

XXX esx.problem.hyperthreading.unmitigated.formatonhost not found XXX

or

esx.problem.hyperthreading.unmitigated

You can see the screenshot below.

Reason behind the notification. Download paypen driver.

It happens when an ESXi hosts is updated before vCenter Server. For more info Click here

Solution – It has two solutions or workaround

1. Upgrade your vCenter to latest patches, version.

2. If upgrading vCenter is not possible or if it is not allowed in your environment then follow below steps to disable the notifications.

Change the changing the value of the ESXi advanced option UserVars.SuppressHyperthreadWarning from 0 to 1.

See the scree shot below.
